The Evolution of a Heart

The scripture above is the theme for my upcoming book "The Evolution of a Heart.” A pilgrimage is exactly what I’ve been on and what we’re all on really. I set my heart on finding God when I was very young even though I couldn’t be positive He even existed. A roller coaster gone crazy is the best way to describe my pilgrimage as blessings intertwined with dysfunction, abuse, and mental illness constantly shifted where I would ultimately end up.

My book is an autobiography with a bible study attached in the back. My hope is once the reader is finished with my story it will encourage discussions (esp. amongst the Christian community) about brokenness and the multitude of uncomfortable and taboo ways people come to be broken, and that in honesty and action there is freedom. My fervent prayer is simply that the book will help another broken person find peace and the people surrounding that person to aid them.

I’ve titled it “The Evolution of a Heart” because that’s exactly what is happening to all of us. Our hearts are evolving as we live and participate on this earth under different circumstances and in different capacities. We experience, learn, and share and along the way our heart is affected. As we evolve we’re affecting others’ evolutions as well.

This book is very raw and personal describing the experiences I’ve had that weighed me down and at times made me forget I needed redemption, and at other times made me feel it was an impossibility. It’s about being snatched from the fire by a loving, selfless Christian who in turn sprung an entire church into action. It describes trying to live as a Christian but still being broken. The story follows me from the time I was five until just recently, through marriage and children. It was hard to find a place to stop but I chose recently because God has given my family and I a new beginning that I intend to consciously glorify Him with.
